ams OSRAM TSL2584TSV Light-to-Digital Converter

ams OSRAM TSL2584TSV Light-to-Digital Converter is offered as a 1.145mm x 1.66mm digital device in a through-silicon via (TSV) package for next-generation thinner wearable products. This high sensitivity light-to-digital converter transforms light intensity into a digital signal output capable of direct I²C interface.

TSL2584TSV integrates one broadband photodiode (visible plus infrared), one infrared-responding photodiode, and a photopic infrared-blocking filter on a single CMOS integrated circuit. The integrated on-chip interference filter rejects IR producing a near-photopic response. TSL2584TSV's two integrating analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) convert the photodiode currents into a digital output that represents the irradiance measured on each channel. This digital output is passed to a microprocessor where illuminance (ambient light level) in lux is derived using an empirical formula to approximate the human eye response. TSL2584TSV's near-photopic response produces a highly accurate lux measurement even when mounted behind dark glass.

The TSL2584TSV also supports an interrupt feature designed to simplify and improve system efficiency by eliminating the need to poll a sensor for a light intensity value.
