NXP Semiconductors i.MX RT1050 Crossover MCUs

NXP Semiconductors i.MX RT1050 Crossover MCUs are based on the Arm® Cortex®-M7 core. These are designed to bridge the gap between the performance of application processors and the flexible usability of microcontrollers (MCUs) without increasing costs or power consumption. The i.MX RT1050 MCUs are part of NXP’s EdgeVerse™ edge computing platform. The i.MX RT1050 supports product designs that include advanced multimedia for GUI and enhanced human-machine interface (HMI) experience. Features include an advanced 2D graphics acceleration engine, LCD display controllers, camera sensor interfaces, and audio interfaces for high-performance, multi-channel audio streaming. Through extensive external memory interface options, i.MX RT processors support greater design flexibility, including NAND, eMMC, QuadSPI NOR Flash, and Parallel NOR Flash. Having high-speed interfaces between external memory and on-the-fly decryption enables secure external data storage, eliminating the need for embedded Flash.

In terms of connectivity, i.MX RT processors offer support for both wired standards, such as Ethernet and USB, and wireless standards such as Wi-Fi®, BLUETOOTH®, BLE, Zigbee®, Thread™, and other options, making thousands of applications for the connected world possible.

The i.MX RT series is designed to make it easy for MCU-based developers to use this class of crossover processors without making a significant investment in developing SW enablement or investing in learning higher-level operating systems, like Linux or Android. Current MCU users can significantly increase performance capabilities using i.MX RT series while leveraging the current toolchain (e.g., MCUXpresso, IAR, and Keil).

NXP i.MX RT Crossover Processors also enables rapid prototyping and development with NXP FreeRTOS, SDK, ARM mbed™, and the global ARM ecosystem, which provides software libraries and online tools and support. Development can be accelerated even further by using the cost-effective evaluation kit (EVK), compatible with Arduino™ hardware shields.
